Day 4

Our second day of sailing here in Newport. The anticipation is building with the first views of the Canadian boats which arrived in convoy last night.

For us, today involved much tinkering with shrouds, cameras, and a host of other little bits and pieces. A steady stream of fascinated onlookers have passed by, awed by these freaky machines as well as each team taking keen interest in their opponents designs.

Mid afternoon Steve Clark came over from his home in his new machine, sporting the wing of Cogito; he stopped for an ice cream and a chat then went winging his way back up to Warren!

After that we put the boat in water with Paul and Sito (our latest team member from Spain). It was Sitos first ride on a C class (being an A class sailor) - the smile on his face on his return spoke volumes.

Soon after that, Gordon Kaiser, our race crew arrived, after a week of personal turmoil and went straight from the airport onto the boat off Fort Adams - we can't lose with dedication like that! The poor chap didn't even have chance to eat or drink! Anyway, we got some marvelous pictures in front of the host club (New York YC) as well as weaving our way between huge shipping, classic yachts and 12m yachts of the old Americas Cup.

Finally, after many years of conversing with Fred Eaton, we finally met; hopefully the first of a number of encounters.

More excitement is sure to ensue tomorrow. Keep watching this space!

Norman.
