Steep Learning Curve
Hey All,
By now everyone will be aware of the events of last weekend as described by Paul... All credit to the team, and especially the sailors for keeping their head cool and bringing the boat back to shore with so little damage. Also a big thank you to the support RIBs that came to help. All in all it was a pretty tough experience but as Paul said, we now know we can survive a capsize and right the boat. With a bit more preparation we could have escape with no damages at all.
Still there are lots of positives to take away from last weekend. The new SK78 rigging has proved to be fantastic. Thanks a lot to MARLOW for providing us with it. It had a major contribution is salvaging the boat from the capsize by keeping enough tension to stop the mast foot from unstepping. INVICTUS also showed some good speeds throughout the weekend. The mods we implemented worked well and the new lower flap proved strong enough, escaping from the capsize with no damage at all.
Some might wonder sometimes why we keep at it, when they see us spending hours ashore, moding or fixing the boat, just to get a few hours sailing. Most would rather have a boat they can put together in 5mins and spend hours on the water without having to fix it. We won't deny the past few months have been an emotional roller coaster and we have been through some tough times. But this is all part of the very steep C Class sailing learning curve. Believe me when you see it come alive on the water, as we have seen it last weekend before the capsize, it makes it all worth the pain. Just looking at it zooming around the harbour is amazing...
The team is getting tougher and tougher. We're learning from every experience. And we have come out of the last weekend with even more determination. We have been working hard all this week to get Invictus back on the water by the coming weekend. Expect to see us down in Weymouth on Saturday or Sunday for some more adventure. We are more than ever convinced we can put on a good show in Newport this summer and we will keep pushing until the shipping date. We may even have a couple of tricks up our sleeves!!!
Keep checking this place for more update on our progress.
Cheers,
Juls.
